SCHOOL OF THE BIBLE (SOTB)

What is School of the Bible?

School of the Bible (SOTB) is a ten-month course of the University of the Nations College of Christian Ministry, and is designed to provide students with an overview of Church History, Theological and philosophical perspectives, and an emphasis on how to study and apply principles of the Word of God.

Successful completion of the Discipleship Training School is a pre-requisite for SOTB.

Introduction to Discipling Nations:

The first module of the School of the Bible.   In synopsis form, it ties Old Testament history together with the teaching of Jesus on the kingdom of God to see how biblical principles apply to structures of government and economic relationships.   It presents Church history and the history of revivals and missions.   This course gives practical direction and experience in biblical interpretation, and develops principles of effective preaching and teaching necessary to draw an audience, keep their attention, and communicate God's message to them.   It also introduces practical leadership principles.   (Credit 12)

Old Testament Studies:

The second module of the School of the Bible.   A biblical perspective of God's activity in the Old Testament is gained by following the hand of God throughout history and across continents.   The student learns to develop tools of discipleship through effective and creative speaking, biblical interpretation, and leadership principles.   Practical insight is gained on how to apply biblical principles to civil government and economics.   (Credit 12)

New Testament Studies:

The third module of the School of the Bible.   Understanding of the New Testament message is deepened by providing historical and cultural backgrounds, and by noting the authors' emphases in writing to the intended audience.   It begins with a study of the Gospels, including the richness of the parables of Jesus.   The Acts and the Epistles come alive as they are studied in chronological sequence.   Valuable insights are gained from a working knowledge of New Testament Greek.   This course is not intended to detail every verse of the New Testament, but to provide inspiration, practical principles and help for life, and to develop a biblical base for teaching and preaching.   (Credit 12)

Biblical Ministry Field Assignment:

The fourth module of the School of the Bible.   Practical skills are developed in active preaching, teaching, and discipling in churches, prisons, schools, and on the streets.   Students carry out all aspects of the outreach: prayer, planning, organization, and leadership.
